Cooling Off

Fall is quickly approaching, and I couldn't be more happy about it.  Not only am I excited about the leaves changing and my favorite season to be in full swing, but the heat was beginning to be a little much for this 8-month-pregnant woman who doesn't have any air conditioning.  I woke up this morning a little chilly under my covers and it instantly gave me the motivation I needed for some much-needed kitchen time.  I picked most of our grapes a couple of days ago, and just didn't have it in me to can the juice (picking grapes is a back-breaker!).  I was so excited to can it all when we moved in to our apartment and first saw the grapevines outside our living room window, but that was when I was barely pregnant, and it was 65 degrees outside.

Now that there has been a 10 degree drop in the temperature, it is finally time for lots of pumpkin cookies and grape juice.  My grandma used to always have fresh grape juice she'd can every year from her vines, and it makes me think of her seeing all these jars full of purple goodness.  I can't wait to mix them with some Sprite and revive our old Thanksgiving tradition we used to do every year at her house.  And grandma, just for you, maybe we'll even have some root beer floats for dessert.
