Why is it so hard to watch your first-born turn 5? My kids' birthdays are always bittersweet for me, but this one was so much harder. Cohen goes to school this year! Sheesh. He is the sweetest, most thoughtful, tender-hearted kid you'll ever meet. For real.
He asked me a few days before his birthday which friends were invited to his party, and I had to break the news that he wasn't having a "friend party". (Wintertime germs and seven 5-year olds in our tiny living room just didn't sound appealing this year). He was devastated, then decided he had to make a sign to put on our front door so his friends would know what the plan was for his birthday. He asked me how to spell each word and wrote the whole thing himself. Then he got some tape and hung it on the door. It read: "Cohen's birthday is in 3 days. It is not a friend party." He had to make sure that all his friends that came over during the week knew that he was turning 5, but that they were not invited to a party. This kid, he kills me. Happy birthday sweet Cohen boy!
